FENCE POST

wooden posts, fence post, fence-1772389.jpg

I am but a fence post

Mobile I am not

The existence of my presence

Not known by a lot

Except by the spider

Who’s web is attached

To snare a young fly

And so be dispatched

I am the fence post

That watches over the pond

Patiently waiting

For times come and gone

I see the doe, the yearling fawn

The cat tails and the clover

And behind me lies the flowerbed

That’s all but been grown over

I am the prominent fence post

My presents here they need

The ground squirrel to perch

To munch upon a seed

A home to the grub

The beetle and gnat

My friend a wren

And upon me he’s sat

Solitude my friend

My neighbors are few

But to all that have passed

I’ve been in view

I’ve been adorned

By birds and the squirrels

With white splotches and lumps

From the seeds they’ve unfurled

My job here is a
Perch for to sit

To silently watch
And be covered in….
